If you are planning to move abroad, there are a lot of details that you will need to take care of when you make your big move, from applying for your visa to booking your flight to figuring out how to move your items.

No matter how many items you own, you will need to find a way to transport them from your home country to your new home.

There are a few options available, including Lift Vans, Air Freight Containers and Ship’s Containers. Air Freight Containers are usually used for small shipments of personal effects, while Lift Vans are used for shipments that weigh less than 4,000 lbs in total.

The method you use to ship your items will affect how long it takes for your belongings to arrive in your destination country.

If you have more items to ship, you could consider using a Ship’s Container, which is a 20 x 40 foot steel container. They are useful for moving an entire household overseas and their construction ensures that your items will be very safe.

Who will provide delivery services at your destination?

What happens to your items when you arrive at the destination? Who will provide delivery services at the other end of the journey?

The answer will depend on the shipping company that you have chosen to transport your goods. Make sure that you choose a reputable company with a lot of experience in international moving, so that you can be assured that they will transport your goods in the most professional and efficient manner.

    Overseas Removals Agent

You can ask your shipping company who will provide delivery services at your destination. Usually the company will have connections with a large network of overseas agents. They will already have an agent in mind in your destination country and they will be able to arrange the delivery of your items to your new home.

The agents will be chosen based on their experience and their quality of service. The services that they will likely offer will include:

    • Customs clearance procedures at your port of arrival

    • Transportation from the destination port of arrival

    • Temporary or long term storage if necessary

    • Delivery of goods to your residence

    • Full unpacking services

    • Removal of all packing-related supplies and debris.

Before you leave your home country, your international moving company will provide you with a contact sheet for your destination. This will usually contain a lot of information about who you should contact when you arrive at your final destination.

JCL were really helpful organising and moving my stuff from Netherlands to UK. Mark was knowledgeable about all the customs documents. They were able to organise transport at late notice. The driver was friendly, his truck was tidy and nothing was broken during transit. I highly recommend JCL.
